Specially-trained testing engineers carry out emergency lighting tests as part of the electrical solutions provided by Mr. Electric Birmingham, across the West Midlands.
Emergency lighting is needed in commercial bulidings and some domestic buildings. This is to ensure the safe evacuation of occupants in the event of an emergency. For this reason all emergency lighting must be regularly checked, tested and maintained. It must also comply with fire safety and building regulations.
A flick test can and should be done routinely to make sure that the emergency lights are functioning. A flick test is when the main lighting is shut off momentarily to see if the emergency lights start up and work correctly.
Emergency lighting can be broken down into two sub cateorgories; emergency escape lighting and standby lighting.
Emergency escape lighting is used when leaving the property and/or attempting to resolve the situation. Only the appropriately-trained personnel should try to correct the issue. Escape route lighting should be followed to a safe meeting point in the event of a life-threatening emergency which requires immediate evacuation of the building.
Standby lighting is needed when power has been lost to the main lighting system but there is no risk to the people on the premises. This lighting is there to allow people within the buliding to continue as they usually would.
It is also important that your fire safety systems are checked regularly. They need to be able to work with the emergency lighting systems you have in place to ensure the safety of all people on the premises.
Our engineers can check both systems at the same time to provide that valuable peace of mind to business owners, employees and customers.
